How We Walk

a little something for the walk ahead

How We Walk

Not whether we carry what's ours to carry — but how.

This isn't a worksheet. There's nothing to fill in, no right answers, nothing to finish. It's a handful of small noticings to play with — at the sink, in the car, on the phone, at the plate. We've spent a year learning to hear what a craving is really asking for. This is that same gentle attention, turned toward the rest of a life.

Tap anything that looks curious. Some of it will land, some won't. Let the ones that land do the work.

Say it out loud

A should learned to disguise itself as a want — and a need learned to hide behind a should. Sometimes just saying the thing plainly lets you feel which one it really is. Tap to hear the question underneath.

When a want might be a should wearing its clothes…

And when a need has been quietly demoted to a should…

      The two yokes

Most of us carry two yokes, not one. The first is the task itself — often ours to keep. The second is the war we wrap around it: the rush, the resentment, the story that this is robbing us of a better life. That one we can set down, without abandoning a single thing. Same task. Two completely different walks.

Same job. Set down the second yoke, and watch the walk change.

Serving me now, or always done?

Not all of it sheds. Some things you'll keep — now with consent instead of on autopilot. Meet a habit and ask, honestly: does this serve the woman I am now, or the one I was when I built it? When it's a keeper, say so.

For the season we're walking into

The long stretch from the first orange aisle to the last New Year's toast has its own shoulds. Hand these to yourself early — the timing is yours.

          Pull a thread

One question at a time, no pressure to answer. Pull one, carry it into your day, and see what it loosens.

Where in my week does my body brace — before my mind explains why?

A gentle reminder for those of us who like to finish things: this is a return, not a verdict. A should you spot and keep this week, you'll meet again come spring. That isn't backsliding. That's the practice.

Curious what's underneath your own reaching?

This is a taste of how we walk. If it loosened something, there's a gentle quiz that helps you see the real reasons you turn to food — and where you might walk from here.
